The Crimson Drake

A fast ship of famed pirate hunter Captain Anton Maldris, the Crimson Drake was recognizable by the red hull and crimson sails, a sight that pirate crews came to dread. Captain Maldris took no prisoners, save those who endured a brief interrogation.

Dozens of vessels were reduced to splinters before the Crimson Drake was lured into an ambush. The Black Hare lured the pirate hunter around an island, where the heavily armed Galeta lay waiting. The Crimson Drake attempted to turn and flee, but the wind was against her, and the Galeta caught up within a few short hours.

Having been lured to his own destruction, Captain Maldris uttered a curse as he sank beneath the waves, claiming that in darkest night he would hunt again. It is said that on nights of the New Moon, the Drake rises from the briny depths and hunts down pirate vessels. The legend has caused many ships to refuse to leave port before the passing of a New Moon, and for others to set flaming barrels of oil adrift behind them to light the waves and prevent the Drake from hunting them.
