“Those that fell to the ground were not allowed their final rest. Kelmus forced them back to their feet, and they followed his word.”
A singular longship plagued Dark Harbor for over a year. At first, it simply seemed to appear in the bay, as the ship had entered under cover of night with no sails raised, and no lanterns to light the way. When it docked, it disgorged a crew of bloodthirsty Einher, their faces painted to resemble skulls. Despite a few of them falling under the swords of the townsfolk, they rose from the dead and continued their pillaging. Additionally, several townsfolk slain by the raiders rose and shambled toward the docks to join the grisly crew.
And just as quickly as they appeared, they again vanished over the horizon. The townsfolk would learn no more until the ship once again raided the town three months later. This time, one of the raiders was captured, and after nearly a week of interrogation, the nature of the raiders was uncovered.
Twice more the longship would arrive under cover of night, and each time the raiders were more dead than alive. On that fourth attack, it is said that the only soul living among them was the foul chieftain himself, and the next morning three ships were dispatched to bring an end to the raids.
Kelmus met his fate when the small fleet caught up to him as he approached the Teeth. His undead oarsmen could not outrun the wind, and so he turned about and took his chance to try and slip past the fleet. Cannonballs tore the longship asunder, and all those aboard sank to the depths.
However, in more recent years sailors have spoken of spotting the tattered sails and splintered hull of a longship against the moonlit water. A few have even braved drawing closer, only to see a crew of skeletal figures…
