The Olyxiar

The Olyxiar

In Magic, Knowledge. In Knowledge, Strength

OPEN RECORDS:

The Olyxiar was founded not long after the Town itself was. The mages quickly formed Libraries and studies to exchange what little scrolls they had. They officially founded the group and built their tower not 20 years after the founding of the town. They have since been a fixture for trained and aspiring mages alike

The group became focused on learning all they can. Working to push experiments to their limits. Gaining all the knowledge they could, this led the majority of the members to worship Salam. While most held his teaching close this has never been a requirement of members. They will take in those of most faiths, wanting to help teach any who wish to learn. The only expectation being those that follow Doranth, though they are not treated with hostility. Followers of the Fallen King are watched to ensure they cause no harm to others.

The mages once held themselves in very high regard. Looking down on those who aren’t as magically inclined as them. They saw those who used steel and fist as lesser, often not even acknowledging their presence. This was considered the norm for those around the harbor for a very long time. Though this has changed in the most recent years.

This all came to a head when they bred and kept a Magic Eater in captivity. They soon learned how much of a mistake this would be, when a specimen grew too strong to handle and escaped. This beast had a hide so thick only the purest of any element could pierce it. Soon they realized that though it was their magic that would breach the beast’s skin, they needed fighters to help slay the beast. They called for aid from the members of town, reaching out to those they once deemed lesser. This was the bridge that showed them the error in their ways.

Now they are more kind to others, accepting of those who choose not to follow the arcane arts. They continue to work alongside the town. Helping new mages grow and aiding the fighters when they call.

The Tower:

The bulk of their organization resides in the tower a few miles from town. The tower, built of a glistening marbled stone, reaches high into the sky. A brilliant wall of white stone surrounds its courtyard. The doors, seemingly missing any form of a handle or lock, still open to those who know the arcane arts.

Rank Delegation:

Lord/Lady– Lords and Ladies are appointed only by approval of all other Lords and Ladies of the Olyxiar. They must have taught at least 5 Magisters to even be considered for this role and retrieved multiple magical artifacts for preservation. Lords will rarely appear in public without a large retinue for the risk of losing their knowledge and skill is simply too great. Most tend to stay cloistered away to study the deeper mysteries of Magic with their only reprieve being meeting with the Council of the Olyxiar to decide a course of action in times of emergency or the appointing of a new lord, even then a few feel such things are a waste and do not appear.

Magister– The more active leadership within the Olyxiar, most Magisters spend their time leading scholars and apprentices in “educational learnings” where they acquire resources required for the Olyxiar to function in its day-to-day. Magisters lead the ships of the Olyxiar into battle to preserve or acquire magical secrets.

Scholar– The bulk of the Olyxiar’s forces, the Scholars are adept at magic while still being fit in body as opposed to the Lords of the Olyxiar. Most Scholars study under a Magister in hopes of permission to enter a personal library so they may learn greater magics.

Apprentice– Apprentices are the newest or least experienced members of the Olixar. They are often asked for help in the more mundane or less sensitive tasks. Though most get inducted as an Apprentice, after a few months of study they are quickly moved up to a Scholar.

Special Divisions:

Preservers– Preservers are the elite task force of the Olyxiar. They were originally formed to collect magical items to be preserved, however, they have become the brutal hand of the Council. Consisting of groups of 2-5 these Magisters only appear when something of dire importance has occurred. For example, if an important magical item has been stolen or a terrible ritual is about to be enacted against the Olyxiar.

Librarians– The Recruiters of the Olyxiar are called Librarians, and often travel alone to speak with mages that the Olyxiar have gained an interest in. They offer scrolls to those they deem deserving in hopes of pulling them into the Olyxiar and, depending on the librarian, Salam’s Church as well.

Notable Members:

Lord Dontavius- A human bearing the mark of a black tower over his right eye. He is often called ‘abrasive’ by most, but his arcane skill is undeniable. Master of multiple spheres, an experienced ritualist, and chosen by The Magician himself.

Magister Cayna- A high elf who often spends her time in town. She is often the highest ranking member of the Olyxiar in the area. A skilled caster who has learned the arts of many spheres.

Librarian Aywin- Twin sister to Magister Cayna and the head of Dark Harbors magical library. She is a very practiced mage who commands multiple spheres of magic as well as being one of the more proficient ritual casters in town.

Recent Events:

-The once proud and over judgmental Olyxiar had accidentally released a test specimen into the wild. A Greater Magic Eater. A being so feared by the organization that they had to call in the help of those they once considered unworthy of their time. Through these hunts they found a new respect for those who did not hold the power of magic like them

-The help of both the Tower and Dontavious was crucial in the discovery and access of the Well of Madness. This led them to an ancient relic, an Orb of Power. This incredibly powerful artifact was entrusted to a member of the Olyxiar, one Librarian Aywin, for containment.
